After the snow and ice did their best to leave their mark on our parking lots, our crew jumped right in to get things smoothed back out and looking good again. Because around here, we don’t just wait for spring to fix winter’s attitude. ❄️➡️☀️
They’re also addressing a sinkhole forming near the Police Station -because apparently the ground decided it needed attention too. No big deal… just another day of keeping Atoka solid from the ground up.
The silver lining? At least it’s a beautiful day outside to tackle these projects. Sunshine makes everything a little better — even parking lot repairs and surprise sinkholes. ☀️
Thank you to our Public Works team for staying on top of the little things (and the not-so-little things) that keep our Town safe, functional, and looking great. We appreciate the hard work you put in — even when the weather (and the earth itself) try to test you.

Dumpster available at Pioneer Park Friday, April 17th – Thursday, April 23rd.
Your garage called.
It said, “We need to talk.” 😬
Good news, Atoka — we’re bringing in a dumpster for Earth Day to help you finally deal with that pile you’ve been stepping over since 2019.
That’s a whole week to clean out the shed, the garage, the “I’ll deal with it later” corner… you know the one.
Let’s keep Atoka looking good, feeling fresh, and maybe even make a little room for that next Amazon delivery. 😉
🚫 Now listen… do NOT toss:
• Tires
• Hazardous waste (paint, oil, chemicals, etc.)
• Batteries
• Mattresses
• Appliances
• Electronics (TVs, computers, etc.)
• Construction or demolition debris
More details coming soon, but for now — mark your calendar and start making that “keep or toss” pile.

From the Fire Department’s historic FEMA SAFER Grant award and new recruit training, to major progress on the Main Street Lift Station and Walker Parkway reopening, there’s a lot happening across town. Parks & Rec is gearing up for spring sports, Planning is meeting with potential new developments, and the Police Department participated in regional law enforcement meetings to strengthen public safety partnerships across the Mid-South.

Mayor Akin shared how local government works right here in the Town of Atoka, what a typical day looks like as Mayor, and some of the challenges and successes that come with serving our community. From budgets and public safety to roads and parks, students got a behind-the-scenes look at how decisions are made and how teamwork keeps our town running.
He even showed his school spirit by wearing his official Student Council shirt — because when you’re meeting with leaders, you’ve got to dress the part!
The students were incredibly interactive, asked thoughtful and insightful questions, and showed a genuine interest in how they can make a difference — both now and in the future. It’s always encouraging to see young leaders so engaged and eager to learn!
Thank you to Atoka Elementary for the warm welcome and to the Student Council for being such outstanding representatives of your school. The future of Atoka is bright! 🌟🏫 #AtokaTN #FutureLeaders #CivicEngagemen
Good news, Atoka! Walker Parkway is officially back open to traffic. You can now drive through as usual 🙌
There is still some work to be completed on the culvert, so you may see crews in the area putting on the finishing touches. Please slow down, use caution, and give our workers plenty of space while they wrap things up.
We appreciate your patience during construction — and we’re glad to get you rolling again! 🚗💨

We love Atoka,
And we think you do too! 💖

After two weeks of snow, ice, early mornings, late nights, and a whole lot of extra work, the Town of Atoka wanted to say a proper “thank you” to our employees.
All departments enjoyed a hot breakfast provided by Mac’s BBQ as a token of appreciation for the hard work, teamwork, and dedication it took to get Atoka through the winter weather.
Nothing says “we appreciate you” quite like a warm meal after battling ice, trash routes, water issues, and everything else that was thrown our way.
We’re proud of our team and grateful for everything they do to keep Atoka running strong.
As a significant winter storm approaches, Town departments have been working behind the scenes to coordinate staffing, equipment, and response plans to keep our community safe.
From storm readiness to serving our neighbors, this week’s Town at Work shows what it truly means to take care of Atoka—before, during, and beyond the weather. ❄️

We are grateful for the men and women of the Atoka Police Department who serve our community with dedication, integrity, and care, often in challenging and unpredictable situations. Your commitment to Atoka does not go unnoticed.
We also extend a heartfelt thank you to "Military Women Across the Nation" and "Soldiers' Angels" for the beautiful handmade keychains provided to each officer. Small gestures like these carry a big message of appreciation and support.
Thank you to all who serve and support our law enforcement community—today and every day.

Public Works will be collecting live Christmas trees for disposal on Saturday, January 3rd, from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Nancy Lane Park (118 Atoka Park Ave).
If you have any questions, please contact Town Hall at 901-837-5300.

From sneaking around offices to stirring up some holiday shenanigans, the Grinch reminded us that even at Town Hall, we’re not immune to a little Christmas chaos. Don’t worry though — our staff kept their holiday spirit strong and made sure the Grinch didn’t steal too much joy.
Keep an eye out… you never know where he might pop up next! 💚

Our giving tree is empty, but our hearts are incredibly full.
This holiday season, the generosity of our community showed what it truly means to be from Atoka. Because of you, neighbors in need received a helping hand when it mattered most.
Thanks to the kindness of so many, a total of $2,476.79 was applied directly toward local utility accounts—helping ease the burden for families during the holidays. Every donation, big or small, made a meaningful difference.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated and helped spread warmth, compassion, and hope throughout our community. This is Atoka at its best.

Santa’s Ride rolled through town this past weekend, and we hope you were able to catch a glimpse of Santa cruising through your neighborhood atop the big red fire truck, spreading cheer and waving to all our wonderful residents.
The fun didn’t stop there! Families gathered at Town Hall for pictures with Santa, Mrs. Claus, and even the Grinch himself, along with festive crafts, yummy cookies, and plenty of holiday smiles. And if you haven’t yet, be sure to swing by and check out our beautifully lit Christmas tree next to the Fire Station at Town Hall—it’s shining bright for the season!
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and help make Santa’s Ride such a joyful community tradition. ❤️🎄
